What is Perindopril (Aceon)?

ACE inhibitors prevent an enzyme in your body from producing angiotensin II, a substance in your body that affects your cardiovascular system by narrowing your blood vessels and releasing hormones that can raise your blood pressure.

How to use Perindopril (Aceon)

  • Take Perindopril (Aceon) with a full glass of water and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • You may need regular blood pressure, kidney and liver tests at your doctors office.
  • You may need to briefly stop using Perindopril (Aceon) before having surgery, so discuss with your surgeon.
  • Perindopril (Aceon) should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
  • If you miss a dose of Perindopril (Aceon), take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or heavy sweating can cause you to become dehydrated. This can lead to very low blood pressure, electrolyte disorders, or kidney failure while you are taking Perindopril (Aceon).

What to know before using Perindopril (Aceon):

Discuss with your doctor if you are taking any of the below medications:

  • gold injections to treat arthritismedication
  • lithium
  • diuretics
  • NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)–ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and others
  • potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium

There are other drugs that may interact with Perindopril (Aceon), including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

If any of the following conditions apply to you, discuss with your doctor before taking Perindopril (Aceon):

  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)congestive heart failure
  • allergy to Perindopril (Aceon) or any other Ace Inhibitor
  • liver disease
  • heart disease
  • congestive heart failure
  • diabetes
  • connective tissue disease such as Marfan syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, lupus, scleroderma, or rheumatoid arthritis
  • pregnant

  • Diabetics and those with kidney disease should not use Perindopril (Aceon) together with any medication that contains aliskiren (Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo, Valturna).

Side effects of Perindopril (Aceon):

Stop using Perindopril (Aceon) and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

  • body aches or pain
  • chills
  • cough
  • difficulty breathing
  • ear congestion
  • fever
  • headache
  • loss of voice
  • nasal congestion
  • runny nose
  • sneezing
  • sore throat
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Abdominal or stomach pain
  • bladder pain
  • bloody or cloudy urine
  • change in hearing
  • chest pain
  • cold or flu-like symptoms
  • congestion
  • difficult, burning, or painful urination
  • dryness of the throat
  • earache or pain in the ear
  • ear drainage
  • frequent urge to urinate
  • hoarseness
  • lower back or side pain
  • swelling
  • tender, swollen glands in the neck
  • trouble with swallowing
  • voice changes
  • vomiting
  • Blurred vision
  • confusion
  • decreased urination
  • dizziness, faintness, or light headed when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  • dry mouth
  • irregular heartbeat
  • muscle cramps or pain
  • numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet
  • rapid breathing
  • seizures
  • sunken eyes
  • sweating
  • thirst
  • trembling
  • weakness and heaviness of the legs

Less serious side effects may include:

  • Back pain
  • lack or loss of strength
  • pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  • tightness of the chest
  • Belching
  • bloated
  • burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles”, or tingling feelings
  • diarrhea
  • difficulty moving
  • discouragement
  • excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  • feeling sad or empty
  • full feeling
  • hearing loss
  • injury
  • irritability
  • lack of appetite
  • leg pain
  • loss of interest or pleasure
  • muscle aching, stiffness, tension, or tightness
  • nausea
  • neck pain
  • nervousness
  • pain, swelling, or redness in the joints
  • passing gas
  • rash
  • sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  • stomach discomfort or upset
  • swollen joints
  • trouble concentrating
  • trouble sleeping
